Admissions

Thank you to everyone who visited and applied to East Side Middle School this year!

Initial 6th grade seat offers have now been made by the Office of Student Enrollment via MySchools. Students who did not receive their first choice will be placed on the waitlists of schools they ranked above the one they were offered. Those waitlists will remain open and active until a mid-September date selected by the DOE. ESMS does not have any control over our list or enrollment, but we will reach out to families by email if we are able to make any offers.

ESMS Orientation for incoming students and their families will be held in the evening on June 12. Details will be sent to families on our roster at that time.

I look forward to seeing you again!

Beth Servetar,
ESMS Parent Coordinator

--------

East Side Middle School is located in Community School District 2 and serves grades 6-8. We are school of choice using the D2 admissions lottery for placement, not a zoned school.

The DOE website explains admissions procedures, priority levels, random lottery numbers etc: schools.nyc.gov/enrollment/enroll-grade-by-grade/middle-school

Students will need a MySchools.nyc account to apply to public middle school. Public schools will help you set up MySchools access in 5th grade; if you are in a private or charter school, looking to apply to a NYC public school, the Family Welcome Center will help you set up a MySchools account.

-------

New D2 residents or those moving from private or charter to public school during the school year:

Please see the DOE's New Families page, and contact the Department of Education's Family Welcome Center to begin the process of finding a seat for your child. The FWC serves families all year round, and will know whether we have any empty seats; if we do not, they can tell you about available seats at schools for which you are eligible. Reach our FWC by email at: 333FWC@schools.nyc.gov. This process is for students who are new to the D2 middle school admissions process and not for those already enrolled at another D2 middle school.

Enrollment forms for new families can be found here.
